How Does it Work

As tap water passes through a VYVwater filter, contaminants such as chlorine, heavy metals, pesticides, and THM’s are removed (like a Brita™ filter).

When the tap water reacts with the Magesium and Bio- Ceramics, electrolytes such as Magnesium, Potassium, and Sodium are added (like Gatorade without the sugar and calories).

The filtered water becomes alkaline (like Fiji water, Aqua Hydrate, and water ionizers which cost thousands of dollars).

VYVwater has been independently tested proving it produces molecular hydrogen which has antioxidant properties. Molecular hydrogen has been identified in more than 300 scientific studies to show health benefits for more than 80 human diseases.

Gatorade became a household name by supplying sports enthusiasts with a drink based upon electrolyte replacement. Those who are serious about physical training appreciate the electrolytes but dislike the sugars and carbs.

Electrolytes are vitally important to the human body. Hospitals make widespread use of electrolytes after surgical procedures to bring levels back to operating efficiency.

The VYVwater filter adds three electrolytes to source water:

Sodium (Na): (VYVwater filters add more than 100mg of Na per liter of filtered water) Sodium is the electrolyte that is predominantly lost during physical exertion.
Sodium is responsible for nutrient uptake and absorption. Symptoms of sodium deficiency are physical weakness, disorientation, and potentially fainting from decrease flow of blood to the brain.

Magnesium (Mg): (VYVwater filters add approximately 5mg of Mg per liter of filtered water) Magnesium lowers blood pressure and hypertension. The reaction of magnesium and water creates molecular hydrogen found to be beneficial in over 150 human diseases including: diabetes, osteoporosis, migraine headaches, and cardiovascular disease. Magnesium is required for over 300 different enzymes in the body to function properly. According to Dr. Caroline Dean, MD, and author of The Magnesium Miracle, more than 97% of people are deficient in magnesium.

Potassium (K): (VYVwater filters add 1 to 2 mg of K per liter of filtered water) Potassium is a lesser known electrolyte, but its functions include lowering blood pressure and hypertension. Potassium also plays a key role as a neurotransmitter (critical to the movement of electrical impulses along nerves and muscle fiber)


Three significant advantages which explain why hydrogen gas may be regarded as superior to other antioxidants

1) No Harmful Byproducts
When other types of antioxidants neutralize free radicals, the antioxidants achieve their goal by donating their free electrons. As a result, the antioxidants effectively become oxidants themselves which must be removed or neutralized. When H2 neutralizes harmful hydroxyl radicals (*OH), the byproduct is water which is beneficial to the body.

2) Selectivity
Hydrogen acts as a selective antioxidant meaning it will only neutralize the most cytotoxic, or cell damaging, free radicals such as the hydroxyl radical (OH). It will not react with beneficial signaling oxidants like hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), nitric oxide (NO), superoxide (O2-), etc., which are required for cellular immunity, blood perfusion ( vasodilation - think erections ) and various signaling processes.

3) Bioavailability
In order for antioxidants to be useful, they need to reach cellular locations that are being damaged by toxic radicals. Most radicals are formed inside the mitochondria, which may be difficult for many conventional antioxidants to reach.

The main factors in determining bioavailability are the size (the smaller the better) and charge /polarity (nonpolar and neutral molecules can enter most easily). Hydrogen gas is the smallest and lightest molecule consisting of only two electrons and two protons. Molecular hydrogen weighs 88 times less than the most popular antioxidant (vitamin C) and is 431 times less than another popular antioxidant (Coenzyme Q10). Molecular hydrogen is neutral and nonpolar, allowing it to easily pass through the cell membranes and subcellular compartments (e.g. mitochondria). Hydrogen has the highest diffusion rate of all the gases allowing it to rapidly permeate cells.

Dr. Ohsawa summarized the outcome of his study as follows: “Thus H(2) can be used as an effective antioxidant therapy; owing to its ability to rapidly diffuse across membranes, it can reach and react with cytotoxic ROS and thus protect against oxidative damage”.

Dr. Ohta noted: “ Recent publications revealed that, in addition to the direct neutralization of highly reactive oxidants, H2 indirectly reduces oxidative stress by regulating the expression of various genes. Moreover, by regulating gene expression, H2 functions as an anti-inflammatory, anti-allergenic, and anti -apoptotic molecule, and stimulates energy metabolism”.
